Good players win games, good teams win championships.

Week 1 March 21. 2009 Results

Playmakers (6) 13 vs Wreck N Crew (6) 33

Not the best way to start off the season, but the bottom line is WNC played better than the Playmakers. The Playmakers need to make defensive adjustments, considering WNC scored on every offensive possession. Hopefully there will be a rematch down the line because that was embarrassing.

Playmakers (8) 0 vs Wreck N Crew (8) 12

Playmakers 8 Man has been one of the most competitive formats of play for the last 4 years. This season will be no different, although WNC has improved there will be a much different outcome the next time these two teams cross paths. WNC started off with great field position on their only two scores, and the Playmakers D had a goal line stand from the 4 yard line. As we continue to make adjustments on the offensive line and welcoming back players Kramer, Art, Mitch, and Chad we will be good. Enough said.

 Playmakers (6) 6 vs The State (6) 31

The State is by far one of the best flag football teams in Nor-Cal if not all of California. This game wasn't even close, from the opening drive to the last score The State had no problem handling The Playmakers. This is why they are an Elite team but the better the competition the better we will get down the road.

Overview of Week 1: The Playmakers have now dug themselves in a deep hole this early in the season. However, in the game of football there will always be peaks and valleys the good teams are the ones who end on the top. Considering the number of missing Playmakers for the opening weekend there is room for hope. History has shown us that sometimes we start off slow only to make a hard run towards the end, this season will be no different.

Week 2 - March 28, 2009 Flash

Playmaker (6) & (8) - No Games

South Bay Flag Football 5 Man Tournament March 28, 2009 Results

Playmakers 33 vs Ol' Skool 13

QB Dave Kramer was unstoppable leading the Playmakers to scores on every offensive drive. Kramer spread the ball out throwing touchdown passes to Nim Nim, An Truong, Albert Airem, and center Shaka. Airem dazzled on defense by breaking up many passes as well as almost taking a pick back to the house but decided to pitch it back to Nim NIm for the score. Much of Kramer's success was due to the tough blocking of Shaka, who did not give up a sack.

Playmakers 45 vs Arsenal 12

The Playmakers D stepped up early not allowing an offensive touchdown in the first half. On the Playmakers first offensive play of the game Kramer hooked up with Truong on a 50 yard touchdown where the WR leaped over the CB and grabbed the ball out of his hands. Kramer continued his air attack by hitting reserve WR Barreda on two long scores. Nim Nim made his presence felt by dancing, pitching, and high stepping to the endzone countless times. Rusher Rico Rodriguez also contributed by recording his first sack and a batted pass. Rico then later suffered a tournament ending calf strain on his only offensive play. Don't worry Rico fans, he was in good spirits and made sure to stick around for the trophy presentation.

Playmakers 27 vs Playin Both Ways 6

Game three featured the return of the jedi as all purpose player Art Diosdado made it to the tournament. Diosdado didn't waste anytime contributing to the Playmakers success on both sides of the ball. The big man batted three QB pass attempts while making the tough over the middle catches and dashing in for the score. Shaka showed off his hands and wheels as he made the sprint in for a 15 yard score.

Playmakers  vs Orange You Glad

Championship Playmakers 28 vs Playin Both Ways 6

The Championship was pretty much the same as before however, the game was over by halftime. Kramer unleashed his arm with fast scores to Diosdado, Truong, and Nim Nim all before the end of the half. This capped by defensive INTs, as well as constant QB pressure from Barreda and Diosdado proved to be too much for Playin Both Ways. The opposing squad decided to end the game early as injuries had taken their toll on the team.

Overall the South Bay Tournament proved to be a success for the Playmakers, look for more information about the league at www.southbayflagfootball.net

Week 3 Flash April 4, 2009

Playmakers (6) 7 vs Cali's Finest - 12

Tough loss vs the Youngsters who have never lost a game, the opening kickoff was returned for a touchdown by Cali and that set the tone. Playmakers came right back with a score and a conversion and actually led 7 - 6. But Cali's Finest found a way to punch in another score to seal the deal. A few missed opportunities by the Playmakers contributed to this loss.

Playmakers (8) 0 vs Gametime - 13

This was the second straight eight-man game in which the Playmakers were unable to get the ball in the endzone. While the offensive woes continue the defense contributed with two interceptions however, missed at least four would be sacks! Something needs to give for this team who is as talented as any other in this league.

Week 4 Flash April 18, 2009

Playmakers (8) 22 vs The Raptors - 6

Every season will have it's peaks and valleys, the trick is to be playing your best football at the end of the season. With the Raptors ahead 6 to zero and with 8 minutes left in the game something needed to happen...and it did. The Playmakers elected to punt on 4th down with 11 yards to go, during the play there was a penalty by the Raptors to move the ball up 5 yards for PM. After a brief discussion with Nim Nim, Barreda decided to put the offense back on the field for a shot from 4th and 6 yards to go. As Revino went back to pass his arm was hit, the ball floated right into the open arms of David Lii who sprinted in for a 46 yard touchdown. The conversion was good and that put up PM 7 - 6, as the Raptors drove down to the PM 5 yard line, Mr. Lii stepped up again. This time intercepting a pass in the endzone and returning it over 60 yards for a touchdown. Revino marched on the field later for another TD toss, this time to Nim Nim to seal the victory.

Turf Hogs 18 vs Playmakers (6) - 13

Tough loss that proves it is a game of inches and sometimes yards. With the Playmakers down with :18 seconds left in the game and no timeouts, Revino threw up a pass that was caught by Mike Pilipina and taken down to the 3 yard line. As the team rushed to the line with no timeouts left the game ended. 18 - 13

This was a very fun game and hopefully next time these two face it will be a different outcome.

Week 5 Flash May 9, 2009

Playmakers (6) 19 vs Red Dawgz 20

Another tough loss that may seal the end of 6 Man Season. Needing a win the Playmakers decided to go for the Win and a two point conversion with no time left.

Playmakers (6) 27 vs All In 6

All In had a tough time against an angry Playmaker team. Even though Safety Mike Pilipina had a coast to coast INT to the house, Nolan Ng stole the show having two picks and two td's resulting in the Playmaker of Week honors!

Playmakers (6) 24 vs The Remix 0

The Remix decided not to show, too much pressure to play the Playmakers.

 Week 6 Flash May 16, 2009

Playmakers 27 vs All In 6

Finally almost everyone was present for this team win! James Revino threw for three scores, two to Nim Nim and one to ERAS. Rico Rodriguez contributed on Defense by sacking the ALL IN QB three times. Later Nim Nim added his third TD grabbing a pass from Mitch. The sad sight of the day was DBs Nolan Ng and David Lii saying they felt like they didn't even have a chance to work up a sweat in 100 degree heat. Sorry fellas.

Playmakers 24 vs The Aztecs 0

The Aztecs were a NO SHOW.

Week 7 Flash May 30, 2009

Playmakers 25 vs Mustangs 0

This game was a must win for the a Playoff spot in 8 man, so we came out ready for the win. James Revino was on and threw for 4 touchdowns, but the story of this game was the Defense. The Mustangs had to go for it on 4th down many times, and two times their QB was sacked on his own 2 yardline which set-up easy tds. The Playmakers will have to play like this again in the Playoffs to win the Championship.

Playmakers 0 vs South Bay Ballers 25

Considering this game didn't matter to the Playmakers it pretty much showed. The offense was unable to get more than one first down, and the Defense had to face the Ballers 4 times inside their own 20 yardline. The only good thing that came out of this game was no injuries, and the effort by the D holding the Ballers to 4th down 4 times, with them converting only 50%.

Playoffs / Championship June 6, 2009

Playmakers 6 vs Spartans 12

This game was not what you would have expected from a veteran team like the Playmakers. The Spartans played hard earning a victory, this young team can now turn the corner as they look to build a solid team. With that said, there were too many mistakes by the Playmakers, both physical and mental. The bottom line, the Playmakers need to show more heart if they want to get back to 8 Man Glory. Who will step up?
